On capital
There are different kinds of capital
. Money, land, real estate, machinery . Knowledge, social networks: family, friends, professional colleagues, cultural artifacts: literature, poetry
In the US, the first category is highly valued. The second is not, except to the extent that it supports the first. This the primary reason why science in the US has been well supported. See Richard Hofstadter’s Anti-intellectualism in American History
