Minnesota teacher speaks about ICE and her students’ stories

Alex Pretti Murder NYT

But pushing back can work

On Saturday, January 23, 2026, Alex Prezzi, a 37-year-old ICU nurse was killed by masked and armed federal agents with no identifying markings. That is to say, by anonymous thugs. Strong language, but if we are to understand the reality we face, we must think, and therefore speak and write about it with clarity and precision. (See Orwell on Clarity )

The images you see here are not from the tragic events of Saturday. Instead, they represent the broader reality of life in Minneapolis, now under armed occupation by the Federal government. It is that reality which sets the stage for the murder of Alex Prezzi and Nicole Good. It is one in which our rights — freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom from unreasonable search and seizure — are routinely violated by agents of the federal government. This is pure lawlessness.

What are we to do? That is the question that I will try to answer, at least for myself. May we all fin our answer, then act upon it.
